Admitting mistakes

Okay, so Krugman has a column today arguing that Hillary Clinton is making a mistake by, um, not admitting her mistake about the Iraq war. Predictably, John Edwards's "I was wrong" spiel figures rather prominently.

I agree with Krugman's main points, but, again, can someone please explain to me what John Edwards is apologizing for? Based on his rendering of events, the intelligence led everyone astray and the Bush administration fought the war incompetently. To my knowledge, he has yet to acknowledge a single act on his part that would've led him to the right result.
