Like everyone else, I'm obsessively following the election returns. But, watching Katrina vanden Heuvel on The Charlie Rose Show (with about 17 other males), I'm reminded of how obnoxious people can be to her. I don't know if it has to do with her politics (people like her aren't well-represented in journalism), because she's a woman (people like her aren't well-represented in journalism), or because of some combination of the two, but fellow guests on political talk shows are always talking down to her like she's some sort of idiot.
I'll grant that she has a tendency to occasionally seem like she's reciting talking points, but she's easily one of the smartest, most articulate people (not women) working in political journalism today. Newsweek's Jon Meacham just smirked at her about something she said about foreign policy. Jon Meacham. Give me a break. Go work on another version of that story you've been writing -- over and over for the last decade -- about the importance of religion in American life.
